Greetings golfers,

With Monday just gone we saw the end of the second event on the USPGA tour for the end of season FedEx Cup. Northern Irishman, Rory McIlroy made a return to the winners circle at the Deutsche Bank Championship. After a shaky start on the first day Rory then put together a fantastic final three rounds to pip Englishman, Paul Casey by 2 shots and pick up the winners cheque for just over $1.5m. It's a great time for Rory to get his game back in shape, it's not been the best of seasons with his putter being the club which has sadly let him down the most.

Rory, along with the other top 70 players, now move onto the BMW Championships which is to be played at Crooked Stick, for those of you old enough to remember, this is the course that John Daly won the USPGA Championships without having a practice round. The final event is the Tour Championships at East Lake GC in Atlanta with just the top 30 players battling it out for their chance at winning the end of season FedEx Bonus pool of $10m dollars.

It also a great time for Rory to hit some form with the Ryder Cup at the end of the month, where he will be part of the European Team, attempting to win the cup for the 4th time on the bounce, something the European side have never achieved. If you would like to watch the Ryder Cup then why not clear your diary and watch the greatest event on the golfing calendar on the big screen here at the golf club on the 30th Sept., 1st & 2nd Oct.

Drive for show, putt for dough? 

This is one of golf's great debates: given the choice, what would you rather be - a great putter or a great driver?   

Without wishing to influence your vote - and you can vote below on our website - we'd take a guess that most of you would go with the former; that if you are a confident putter and better than most, your scores will be far greater.

Others may say you could be the best putter in the world, but it counts for nothing if you're chipping out sideways from the fairway rough all day long - therefore accuracy and length off the tee would be preferable.   

There's no right or wrong answer, of course, although how good does it feel when you bomb one off the tee? Actually, it feels pretty good when you hole back-to-back 30-foot birdie putts, too.
