Thought of the week

Goodbye to 'The King'

Arnold Palmer sadly passed away but his legacy as a true icon of the game will certainly live on. Labelled as the first real superstar of the game, it is said that 'The King' transcended the game of golf.

Palmer became the first major US superstar and went on to win seven Majors, including four Masters titles - and his rivalry with the 'Big Three' dominated golf.

Tributes have poured in, from players past and present, as well as from the US President.

Jack Nicklaus said: "He was more than a golfer or even great golfer. He was an icon. Arnold was someone who was a pioneer in his sport. He was the king of our sport and always will be."

Pros news

What a final of the FedEx!

Well what a final event in the FedEx! After the 3rd round it looked odds on that Dustin Johnson would take the massive pot of money. But things didn't goes his way in the final round and Rory came storming through the field with a magnificent 64, matched by his playing partner Ryan Moore.

Who says that your golf can't be dragged along by your playing partner?

The third player to finish the event tied with Rory and Ryan, was Kevin Chappell.

So, back to the 18th for the first playoff hole. Here, Rory had his first chance to win with an 8 foot putt for eagle, but sadly his putt horse-shoed out. His birdie was matched by Ryan and Kevin, who dropped out, only making a par.

The following 2 holes were tied but on the 4th play off hole Moore made an amazing par, holing a 20 footer. Rory then had a chance from 15 feet for birdie. He put a great roll on it and a few seconds later the ball dropped into hole making him an unbelievable $11.5 million richer. $1.5 million for winning the event and $10 million for the FedEx and did he ' roar ' when that putt dropped.

This weekend we move on to the small matter of the Ryder Cup

Will Europe win the trophy for the 4th consecutive time or will the Americans grab the trophy back for the first time since 2008?

I'm sure after the sad loss of one of the greatest golfers in Arnold Palmer, the Americans will be looking to win this one for 'The King'. Whatever happens I think it's going to be another close call.

My pick for top points scorer for each team are - Europe - Justin Rose USA - Dustin Johnson.

If you don't have Sky TV at home, please remember you can join us at the golf club and watch this event on the jumbo screen, enjoy the odd beer and some lovely food prepared by our Head Chef, Ben.

Enjoy your weekend with some top quality golf and I'm sure you all, like me wish Darren, the Vice Captain's and the 12 European golfers all the best.
