When I started putting this newsletter together at the beginning of the week, the news that Tiger Woods was returning to competitive golf at this week's Hero Challenge was to be our main feature.
Tragically, other news occurred that shocked and saddened us all. Early on Tuesday morning last years Lady Captain, Carol Allan, passed away suddenly overnight.
I felt that sending out my usual shop newsletter was not the right thing to do. I wanted to express how much all the staff and members at the golf club liked and admired Carol, and how much she will be missed. Carol had just finished her year as Lady Captain and was looking forward to getting back and playing some fun golf after her year in office. She always brought a buzz to the club whenever she turned up to play or even just to do some admin. When Carol arrived to play golf, bright colours were her thing - she not only cheered us all up with her clothes, but with her sunny, funny personality.
On her Captain's Day though she went down a different route and requested that all the ladies wear black and white on the course. This the ladies at Falmouth took to without hesitation. They didn't quibble, even when a thunder and lightning storm forced a few of the last groups off the course early. Did it worry Carol on her big day? Of course not! Her only concern was for everyone's safety.
I certainly enjoyed working with her during her year in office and her loss will be felt by everyone associated with our club, but also at Lanhydrock where she was a member before joining Falmouth.
