Is Storm Doris going to hit Cornwall?

As you read this email, are we are about to be hit with our fourth storm of the winter ? So far we have had Angus, Barbara & Conor and each time it's brought high winds and heavy rain, which is no good for us golfers or the course.

But you all seem to be a brave bunch and wander out for a few holes whatever the conditions, sadly though with the soil structure we have here at Falmouth all it does is hamper the ground conditions. We can only hope that with March just around a week away the Spring weather cannot be too far behind it and we will start to see improvements all around.

Sadly though it looks like I shall be battling the weather conditions with our second meeting of the CCPGA season at Trevose on Thursday, lead boots required possibly.

Pros news

PGA National Magazine

I was very privileged to see this write up in our PGA National Magazine this week from the Press Secretary, Peter Godsiff about my upcoming year as PGA West Region Captain.

Shop news

New Arrivals

New arrivals this week include the brand new range of woods from Mizuno, the JPX900 model is available in Drivers, Fairway Woods & Hybrids.

We also have demo clubs available for you to take out on the course or if you would like a personalised fitting we have a Mizuno Fitting Event coming up in the next few weeks.

If you would like to book a slot please click here or pop in and see us in the shop. But be quick as spots have already been filled.

If you require more info on the Mizuno range this year then please visit the website by clicking here.

Also just out of the box as I am compiling this email is the 2017 range of X Series Drivers, Fairway Woods & Hybrids, this range has been launched at the mid priced market which seems ideal as now a fair amount of Drivers for this year are now hitting between the £300 to £400 price bracket.

The Grip Bar

Since last week's email, we have had quite a few members take up the offer of having their 7 iron re-gripped FREE of charge and the feedback has been fantastic.

We still have some of those grips available so if you would like to try out a new grip on your clubs, particularly if yours are worn and shinny, then this is the ideal opportunity, but please remember once those grips are gone the offer will close, so be quick!

Ladies Range

Not forgetting the lovely Ladies Section here at Falmouth, we have just received our first drop of a new ladies range from Island Green Clothing and so far we have had in their new Quilted Gilet in two different colour-ways of Turquoise or Blue Iris, one of which was snapped up by Donna Craig on Tuesday.

So please pop on in and try out your size and colour before they all disappear.

Club news

Presidents Bowl Team

This weekend sees our Club Captain, Scott Pedlar lead the Presidents Bowl team to a semi final match at Perranporth against Lanhydrock, with the 1st match teeing off at 10.30am.

I would like to wish the team all the best, but sadly I cannot be there as Rob my shop assistant is playing for Tehidy in the semi final of the Cornwall Team Championship on the same day.

Six Nations

Also this weekend sees the third round of matches for the Six Nations. We will be showing all three matches live on the big screen here and it starts with Scotland v Wales at 2.25pm on Saturday, this is followed by Ireland v France at 4.50pm on the same day.

Then moving to Sunday we see England try and maintain their unbeaten run playing Italy at the home of rugby, Twickenham with a 3.00pm kick off.

Pop on over for a few beverages and some nosh while sitting down and enjoying some great games of rugger.

GolfSixes

Aiming for a younger demographic

The European Tour have introduced some innovative ideas for the season ahead. The World Super 6 combined 54 holes of stroke play with a final-day knockout, whilst GolfSixes, which takes place later in the year, sees two-man teams battle it out over six holes in a group stage, before progressing to a final-day knockout.

Will this be good for the game? Have your say here
