Spring is getting closer

Well, that's the shortest month of the year gone by, but also one of the wettest that we have had for a while. As many of you who have been up to the golf club over the past few weeks, will know, the golf course has struggled with the ground conditions. Hopefully though, with us now into March the weather will start to improve as the days draw out.

Course Maintenance - ( Monday 6 to Friday 10 March )

Just a quick note to everyone that Simon and his staff have next week put aside for the Spring Maintenance Programme on the golf course, so from Monday the greens will be in temporary positions through the week. 

Depending on the weather during the week, this will determine how the staff progress. We will keep you up to date on how things are going with daily postings on the Falmouth Golf Club Facebook Page.


 

West Region PGA Annual General Meeting

Tuesday 14th March is quickly approaching!

I am attending the West Region PGA Annual General Meeting at Woodbury Park Golf & Country Club near Exeter. This is the day I take over as West Region Captain for the next 12 months. I am looking forward to my year and it certainly is going to be a busy one. I shall not only be Juggling my roles as PGA Captain and as Club Pro here at Falmouth, but also getting back to playing some tournament golf around the region.


 

New Equipment for 2017

The shop is starting to fill up again with all the new equipment for 2017. This week we have had in the Cobra One Length iron, this iron is used by American Tour Pro, Bryson DeChambeau.

All the irons are of the standard length of a 7 iron, so the stock set consists of 5 Iron to Gap Wedge, each head has been re-engineered for proper geometry to deliver optimised trajectory and distance gapping from long irons through to wedges.

Odyssey Putters

Also over the past few days we have taken delivery of our new range of Odyssey Putters, complete with the new O Works model. This putter has been engineered to improve the topspin and roll of the golf ball from the putter face, regardless of your stroke - what we call Microhinge Insert Technology.

If you would like to try out one of these putters then please drop into the shop and take one out onto our practice putting greens.

Breaking News on the Rules of Golf

As some of you have heard on the radio and TV this week, the USGA and R&A are looking into re-writing the Rule Book. The last rule book came out in January 2016 and with normally a four year cycle on the Rules of Golf, the next one would not be due till 2020.

With changes a-foot to make the Rule Book easier to understand and to include a significant modernisation to the rules, the next re-print is heading for the printers some 12 months ahead of schedule, so January 2019 for some of these changes:

1 - Reduce lost ball search time from five to three minutes
2 - Allow spike mark repairs on greens
3 - Allow dropping from any height
4 - Emphasising use of red stakes for water hazards
5 - Eliminate the use of club lengths when taking relief
