First week as PGA West Region Captain
Well, my first week as PGA West Region Captain as gone by and it's been a fairly peaceful one, long may that continue, but I have a sneaky feeling it won't.
On Monday evening I had a surprise phone call from David Murch of Foremost Golf Ltd. who was in he area, David wanted to play a few holes of golf around Falmouth as he hadn't seen the course before. We ended up having just enough daylight to play the back loop and when we reached the 14th green / 15th tee, David commented on how lucky we were to have such a lovely course with stunning views of the Cornish coast.
Next week I am off out on a Brittany Ferries golf trip to St. Malo and playing at Dinard ( twice ) and Golf des Sables d'or golf clubs in one of the pre-arranged golf competitions that they run. It's an excellent few days away with the following all included in the price - ferry crossing from Portsmouth to St Malo, four berth cabin ( cosy for 4 chaps ! ), three rounds of golf and two nights bed and breakfast with the return trip from Roscoff to Plymouth again with a cabin, this is based on 4 sharing a car.
If you would like some further details on these events then come in for chat over a coffee, it's great value at £229.00 a person for this trip. With this in mind it may be difficult to get my newsletter out to you next week, but Foremost will help with a pre-arranged newsletter, hopefully I will have time to put one together for you, if not please accept my apologies.
Mizuno Fitting Day
Another busy week in the shop started with my Area Sales Manager and Club Fitting Guru, Simon Smart from Mizuno holding a fitting day.
This was well supported through the afternoon with members and visitors coming along to try out all the new Mizuno equipment, with Simon and myself on hand.
Trackman was available for up to the second data on how far each customer was hitting his / hers own clubs against the JPX900 Woods and Irons.
Everyone who came along to the fitting thoroughly enjoyed the experience with several customers placing orders over the next few days, these will be expected in the shop over the coming few days from the main assembly factory for Mizuno in Cumbernauld in Scotland. Click here to find out more about Mizuno's custom fitting procedure.
One of the first to collect his new clubs was one of our up and coming Juniors, Archie Fox, here is is with his new set of JPX900 Hot Metal irons.
With how successful these events are, we have already booked in our second Fitting Event with Mizuno on
Wednesday 31 May from 1.00pm onwards. If you would like to guarantee yourself a spot then come on into the Pro Shop and book yourself in.
Bag Trade In
Motocaddy golf bags have been selling well with a few members taking advantage of the ' Trade in Trade up offer ' on the Club, Pro and Dry Series cart bags.
But be quick as this offer finishes at the end of the month.
Course UpdateWe have had another indifferent week weather wise, again affecting what Simon and his staff have been able to achieve on the course. With some of our older style greens seeming to hold water at this time, Simon over the past few days has been solid tyning to a depth of 8 inches and hoping that we can get more of the surface water draining through to lower levels to help with the overall drainage on the greens. Although on a plus note, we have moved off mats and back onto grass tees, which is ahead of schedule this year.
Major fever starts
As you receive this week's newsletter, the first major of the year is two weeks away. Without doubt the Masters is the one that finally gets the golfing season into swing ( sorry about the pun ), the question is ' who will win the coveted Green Jacket this year ?
After Danny Willet back in 2016, their has been a wide selection of tournament winners during the 2017 season so far, but looking at the Betting Companies at this moment in time we see all the big names at the top of the pile, these include Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, Rory and Jason Day with the shortest odds.
I will be running my usual Masters Sweepstake from the shop over the next two weeks until play commences, pop on in and pull out a raffle ticket. The ticket number corresponds to the order of play on the first day, so pick out ticket 1 and the player you shall have is the one that has the honour of hitting the first tee shot of the 2017 Masters and so on until the complete field has been picked. The winners will receive a Gift Voucher for the Pro Shop with 1st, 2nd & 3rd places paid out. ( depending on ties )
