Welcome to this edition of the weekly newsletter. In this week's email, we round up the Major season, recap some great events at the club and showcase some great offers we have in the shop. Enjoy the read!

Major recap

Maiden win's

All the Majors are now over and done with for the 2017 golfing season and we had three brand new winners to join the Major list of champions this year, with Sergio at the Masters, Brooks Keopka’s win at the US Open and Justin Thomas at the USPGA.

With Jordan’s win at the Open Championship it means, like Rory, now they only need to win one Major each to complete the golfing Grand Slam, Rory needs a Masters Green Jacket and Jordan the USPGA. So who will pick up that title first and join the other Grand Slam winners in Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and of course Tiger?

On a slightly different aspect of nearly winners of the Grand Slam, South Africa’s Louis Oosthuizen has now completed the Major runner up slam with his second place at last week’s USPGA, he joins the list of Jack Nicklaus (of course), Greg Norman and Phil Mickelson who have all had runner up spots in the majors over the years.

New Head Greenkeeper

Following Simon, our Head Greenkeeper, moving onto other things in a few weeks’ time, the club have moved quickly to find a replacement in Richard Rhodes, Richard currently works for Devon Garden Machinery but has worked at various golf clubs in Cornwall and Devon. Richard’s first day will be Monday, 11th September and we look forward to welcoming him to our wonderful team here at Falmouth.

Mizuno Demo Day

The next Mizuno Demo Day is fast approaching!

Tehidy Park Festival Week

It has been a quiet week for me this week on the PGA playing front, but I did pop over to Tehidy Park on Tuesday to play in the Mixed Foursomes during their Festival Week. My partner for the day was Jenny Storey and we were paired to play with the Lady Captain, Shirley from Tehidy and her playing partner Steve.

It was a great day with fantastic weather and the course was in great condition after Monday night’s downpour. We had one of those days when things went really well for us, we managed to clock up 43 points for the overall win, dropping only 6 shots to par, that included two 3 putts on 12 and 18 as well.

Then to top the event off, we also managed the only gross 2 of the event and won 43 Pro V1 Golf Balls. Not too bad a day and it also enabled me to have a sneaky practice round before the Pro Am there on Sunday.

Just a quick note to all the members that my day for you is fast approaching and it is open to all of you that wish to play on Saturday 26th August, we have start sheets for you to pop your name down on in the gents and ladies locker rooms. Don’t forget that wonderful prize table that we always have with the thanks of some of my suppliers, hopefully see you on the day.

Golf Club Results

Last Saturday saw the playing of four events on one day for the men, with the following trophies up for grabs, The Hext, Trevena, Evans and Gibbons, each trophy represents the different handicap sections within the club.

The Hext, 36 Hole Scratch Medal Play for 0 to 12 handicaps, won by Matt Roberts with 156 gross.

The Trevena, 36 Hole Medal Play Play for 0 to 12 handicaps, won by Matt Roberts with 136 nett.

The Gibbons, 18 Hole Medal Play for 13 to 20 handicaps, won by Pete Lewis with a 63 nett!

The Evans, 18 Hole Stableford Play for 21 to 28 handicaps, won by Jack Stocker with 43 points.
