New Arrivals Well after a busy week, it’s been all change in the shop with Rob and myself moving all the displays around for our autumn/winter stock, we hope you like the changes and we think it definitely makes the shop look a lot bigger. As you walk in now you will see the irons and waterproof golf bags displayed right in front of you.
Then following on down the right hand side of the shop towards the till area, is the brand new autumn/winter wear from Sunderland, Glenmuir and Mizuno, with a wide selection of padded jackets and gilets to suit everyone’s price bracket. Then on the other side of the shop we have the Falmouth Golf Club logo'd sweaters, in v-neck and zip neck models from Glenmuir, along with the Glenmuir logo'd shirts, a great idea for Xmas only a few weeks away.
A reminder also to all of you that with the clocks going back on Saturday evening (yippee, an extra hour in bed on Sunday morning), we are changing back to our Winter Hours Opening Times. The shop will still be open seven days a week, but from 8:15am to 4:00pm, and also that with these hours the course will now open at 8:32am being the first tee time, this will be in effect from now till the end of February. Although the mornings do go back to being a little bit lighter, this will change over the next few weeks and we have to make sure that Mark and the rest of the Greenkeeping Team can get the course looking as good as usual for play over this winter period.

Mizuno Fitting Event With the weather having beaten me a couple of times this year with our Mizuno Fitting Events, Simon Smart, my Area Sales Manager and Club Fitting Consultant will once again be on site on Thursday, 8 November from 12:00pm through to 3:00pm for anyone who wishes to try out the brand new Mizuno JPX 919 models which were just launched a few weeks ago. So if you are interested in this FREE OF CHARGE Fitting Event, then please make contact with a member of staff in the shop to book your slot, or click here to send us an email. This is the last event this year until the new woods and fairways are launched in February of next year.

Staff Changes Sadly our Head Chef Dougie has finally retired from his post, he will be greatly missed by us all here at the club... But we welcome our new Head Chef Garrie Lawrence who takes over from Thursday this week, I’m sure we will all make him feel very welcome and look forward to the changes Garrie will make once he has settled in.

Golf Club Fixtures - Thursday, 25 October - Junior Section – The Ryder Cup Singles at 12:00pm to 1:00pm.
- Friday, 26 October - The Harry Keene Memorial Trophy at 8:30am to 9:00am.
- Saturday, 27 October - The Frank Wills Team at Truro vs. Mullion and The Winter League – No. 2 at 11:00am to 1:00pm.
- Sunday, 28 October - Winter Tee Times come into effect, with the first tee time at 8:32am (This will be from now till the end of February).
- Monday, 29 October – Winter Mats and Winter Rules coming into play, as of today - Monday Stableford.
- Tuesday, 30 October - Ladies Californian Scramble at 9:30am to 11:00am.
- Wednesday, 31 October - Seniors' Winter League – No. 2 at 10:30 am to 12:00pm.

Falmouth Golf Club Pro-Am kindly sponsored by DJR Roof Trusses On Thursday of last week the club held the annual Pro-Am event, this was kindly sponsored by Dave Tangye of DJR Roof Trusses. With 14 teams from around Cornwall battling it out over the course, to see who would take top honours. On the Pro’s Individual Event, the leading score was a 4-under-par 68 by Joe Cruise from St. Enodoc who has recently signed up with the PGA to commence his training. He won by three shots from Richard Sadler from Newquay and Richard O’Hanlon from St. Kew.
The team event was another closely fought battle with Joe’s boss, Nick Williams, the Head Pro at St. Enodoc leading a team of his three members to victory with 17-under-par (89 points) on a better back nine score from the team lead by Richard O’Hanlon from St. Kew with his team kindly sponsored by Tom Crocker Roofing.

The Greenkeepers' Shotgun Texas Scramble Last Saturday the golf club held their annual competition for the Greenkeeping Staff with a Four Person Team Texas Scramble, with all monies taken going back to the staff as a thank you for all the hard work they have put in over the past 12 months. Thanks must also go to the members who couldn’t play on the day, but kindly made a donation as well.
With a glorious day, the teams kicked off at 9:30am with nearly all the tees used except for some at the further points of the course. With a 15% handicap allowance, all the teams were closely matched with shots allowed. Afterwards all the players gathered in the clubhouse for the presentation and one of Doug’s famous brunches, which sadly was going to be one of his last meals, as he retired from his post as Head Chef on the Sunday evening. The team which finished runners-up consisted of Dave Drewett, Issac D’Bue, Neville Brown and Ella Richards with a score of 55.3, they were pipped by the team lead by our Assistant Head Greenkeeper, Keith Kellow along with Simon Foxhall, Jenny Storey and myself with a team score of 54.5 – that went down well! |

Mixed Greensomes On the Sunday the club held the first Mixed Greensomes of the winter, sadly it wasn’t the biggest field, but that was due to a lot of players playing the day before in to Greenkeepers' Competition. Results were as follows: - First place - Andy J, Anderson and Rebecca Beer.

Rules of golf With the new Rules of Golf coming into effect from Tuesday, 1 January 2019, I think it’s only fair to now start to cover some of the new Rules and Regulations, so here we go for a bit of a heads up on some of the changes. |

Looking for a lost ball - So under Rule 18.2 (see page 111) Well you all better take more notice as to where you golf ball finishes, because the time allowed to search for your ball is dropping from 5 minutes to 3 minutes. When a ball is lost – your golf ball is LOST if not found in 3 minutes after you or your caddie begin to search for it. If a ball is found in that time but it is uncertain whether it is your ball. You must promptly attempt to identify the ball and are allowed a reasonable time to do so, even if that happens after the three minute search time has ended. This includes a reasonable time to get to the ball if you are not where the ball is found. If you do not identify your ball in that reasonable time, the ball is LOST.

Dropping a golf ball out of a bunker – So under Rule 19.3 (see page 119)
In the past you have only had three options with regard taking a penalty drop: - 1 – You can drop the ball under penalty within the confines of the bunker, but keeping the original position of the golf ball and the flag in line.
- 2 - Going back to the position that you hit your last shot from.
- 3 – Take stroke and distance relief.
Well, from January 1st, the addition of a 4th option is going to be the following: - For 1 penalty stroke, the player may take stroke and distance relief.
- For 1 penalty stroke, the player may take back-on-the-line relief in the bunker
- For 1 penalty stroke, the player may take lateral relief in the bunker.
- For 2 penalty strokes, the player may take back-on-the-line relief outside the bunker based on a reference line going straight back from the hole through the spot of the original ball.
