Something in the sea air
For the third time in a matter of a few weeks, we’ve had a member who has had a Hole in One! This time it was last year’s Club Captain William McLean on the 7th hole on Monday in the HOGS. This was William’s second one after his first at Cape Cornwall in a Seniors Match. Here's William retrieving his ball from the hole, drinks all round Mr Past Captain! |

Golf Pro Inspection trip Last week I was fortunate enough to be invited to the Amendoeira Resort near Faro in Portugal for what is called a Pro’s Inspection Trip, this trip involved Darren Bragg and Katie Rule from the Holiday Company, then five other Golf Pro’s and myself. It was to see what the facility can offer in the way of personalized golf trips for Pro’s taking amateur golfers for a few days away. Something I will be looking at in the future and it’s just over two hours on a plane and temperatures were between 18 and 22 degrees every day, not like home now! |

I can only say that the resort was amazing with two golf courses, one designed by Nick Faldo and the other by Christy O’Connor Jnr. The Faldo course was extremely long with the back nine being very much up and down the hillside, buggy most certainly needed, as for the O’Connor course this was a lot flatter and more playable and in front of you. The service we received was second to none and the food and drink of great standard and not overly priced. |

Also on site they have a nine hole layout played under floodlights, with three sets of tees on each hole, you play from some high quality range mats which are 3m by 3m to greens the standard of both golf course on site and surrounded by bunkers and water hazards.
The holes measure between 60 and 110 yards, so it’s great for your short game and if anyone gets the idea back here in the UK, I think they would make a killing from it, it was such fun with all the other guys and girls and playing an 8 ball didn’t even matter.

Our last day took us to another local course, some 30 minutes from the resort, this was the 27 hole complex called Palmares which is near Lagos. This again was another amazing layout with a small clubhouse overlooking the golf course below, the three nines are made up of a Links, Parkland and Heathland nine holes and depending on the day you turn up to play, you will get a combo of two of those nines. |

Successful Mizuno Fitting Event
Once again this event was well supported, considering the conditions that we have had lately, I would like to thank the members from Falmouth and some of the other clubs in the area that took advantage of the Free Fitting Event.
On that side, I would like to wish the members from Tehidy Park and Truro who have since invested in their new set of Mizuno Irons and wish them all the best for the future with their new purchase.

Xmas Draw Stableford
Last weekend saw the club members competing in two competitions, on the Saturday the Gents Section played in the Xmas Draw Stableford where members won tickets for the upcoming Xmas Draw which will be held in the clubhouse after the Christmas Draw Scramble on Saturday 8th December.
With 69 men taking part, conditions were extremely tough with a strong wind blowing across the golf course all day, this meant scoring was tough, but a few players did manage to score well.
- 1st Place - Andy Morris with 41 points
- 2nd Place - John Sanz with 39 points
- 3rd Place - Roger Scorse with 38 points
With the 2’s Event we had 4 gross 2’s recorded but only 3 players entered the competition, so this gives each player 1 Dozen Titleist Tour Soft golf balls for their two, well done and thanks to all that entered and supported it as usual.

The will to win It was a huge moment for Danny Willett over the weekend, as the 2016 Masters Champion returned to the winners' circle after a two-year hiatus. The Englishman – who had fallen outside the top 450 in the World Rankings earlier this year – carded a final round of 68 to win the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. It marks a remarkable return to form for Willett, and will no doubt give him a huge confidence boost going into 2019. Fellow Englishman Tommy Fleetwood needed to secure victory to have any chance of overhauling his close friend Francesco Molinari at the top of the Race to Dubai standings. As a result, the Italian was confirmed as Europe’s number one golfer, capping off a truly memorable season with two tournament wins (including The Open Championship) and a record-breaking Ryder Cup performance in Paris. |
The results are in... A couple of weeks ago we asked you to think about which part of your game had let you down the most in 2018. Well, the results are in and it looks like finding the fairway off the tee is the biggest cause of concern, with 30% of you choosing driving as your answer. Short game areas also feature heavily; with wedges and putting combined racking up over a third of the votes. It's probably a good time to remind you that we can tailor your lessons to focus on the area of your game that you want to work on the most – everything from putting through to driving. So, if you want to make 2019 your best year yet, get in touch via the link below to book your lesson. Book a lesson here. |
We all want to emulate our golfing heroes. From the shots they manage to hit on the course to the latest apparel they wear with such great style, we'd give anything to be in their shoes for a day. Whilst the former might take a little longer to accomplish, you can certainly look like them in an instant. |
