Welcome to another edition of our weekly newsletter, well the first month of 2019 is now over with, and it’s been a bit of a tough one with the weather. Our nearest weather station is about 7 to 8 miles away from the golf club and we’ve had about 200% less rainfall this January as we for the same month last year.
But the last three weeks is when we have had the wettest period of the month, with 45mm of the 50mm in January falling since the 16th. Now we move into the shortest month of the year and once this one is over and done with, we can really see the golf season kicking into play.
Especially with the 2019 Masters only a few more weeks away.

What's new?
With many of the companies now launching the new models for 2019 over the next week or two, some of the new toys have already arrived through the shop door, we have had in the brand new Cobra F9 Speedback range of Drivers, Fairways & Hybrids and also the Callaway Epic Flash in Drivers and Fairways. We also have demo drivers available in the Callaway Epic Flash for you to take out and test drive on the golf course or have a personalised fitting with myself, with more to follow. |
The Cobra F9 Speedback Range
These clubs have hit the course, well and truly running, with Cobra Tour Pro, Bryson DeChambeau picking up his first international win at last weeks’ Omega Dubai Desert Classic. Bryson managed a 7 shot win from Matt Wallace, who was unlucky to miss out on a Ryder Cup spot last September, but I’m sure he is one for future European teams.
Bryson clocked up an amazing 24 under, a new tournament record, with the brand new Cobra F9 Speedback Driver in the bag. This was also his fourth win in his last 9 starts, so without doubt one of the hottest players on the planet at this time.

The Callaway Epic Flash Range
Another club that is now in stock here at the Pro Shop and has already had success on tour with Xander Schuffele at the Tournament of Champions at the start of the 2019 season of the USPGA Tour. We have a selection of shafts available to try, this driver is the first one on the market to be designed by A.I.( Artificial Intelligence). A normal driver has between 5 and 7 different models designed, but the Epic Flash had 15000 variations before the one Callaway decided on. So once again we have this available for you to take out on the course or have a personalised fitting with me, so pop on in for a look at both of these new ranges.

Rules of Golf
With the new Rules of Golf now having been in play for 1 month, we still have some players still using the old rules, particularly when having to take a penalty drop or relief, please remember that you must now drop the ball from knee height and not shoulder height. It is difficult to remember as we’ve done this dropping procedure for a number of years.
If you see a player doing this, please give them a gentle reminder to re-drop with the correct procedure, otherwise a general penalty of 1 stroke will be added to your score.

Are new clubs the key? It was the perfect start to 2019 for world number one Justin Rose, as he won the Farmers Insurance Open by three shots at Torrey Pines to claim his tenth victory on the PGA Tour. Rose, who has switched club manufacturers this season, showed no signs of rustiness as he drove and putted superbly throughout the week, with every round in the 60s. He had a brief wobble in the final round, with three bogeys in his opening five holes, but his nearest challenger in Adam Scott was unable to capitalise. Whilst there would have been some eyebrows raised at Rose’s decision to switch up the clubs in his bag having just reached the pinnacle of golf, his victory shows that even the world’s best can keep on finding ways to improve their game through a change of gear in the bag. If you think it’s time for you to do the same, come down to the shop and have a chat with us – we’ll be happy to help you pick the clubs which take your game to the next level.
