Tour news

Four decades of victories

Lee Westwood recorded his own little piece of history when he closed out the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship on Sunday.

Winning by two from Frenchman Victor Perez and English duo Matthew Fitzpatrick, and Tommy Fleetwood, it meant the popular former world number one has now claimed Tour titles across four decades – his first was all the way back at the 1996 Scandinavian Masters.

It was also Westwood’s 25th European Tour victory to leave him 8th on the all-time list and thrust him back into Ryder Cup contention for Whistling Straits later this year.

Layer up

Last week we talked about one of our favourite topics: rain! Whilst waterproof protection is key for staying dry when caught in a downpour, combining layers of clothing underneath is vital if you want to enjoy the warmth without being so restricted that you can’t complete your backswing.

What do we mean by layering?

Lots of golfers are still in the habit of putting on as many layers as they possibly can in the winter to combat the cold – a vest, turtleneck, polo, sweater and jacket – but today’s golf clothing could easily cut that down by half.

What do we suggest?

From polos that keep you at a cool temperature in the summer to quilted pieces that lock in warmth like PING's Breaker jacket above, having the right item of clothing can do the job of several poor layers. Pop by the shop to have a look at our clothing collections.
